Blisters?

The best piece of advice i can offer is when your buying a pair of shoes (from a specialty running shop ofcourse), pick up at least one pair of proper running socks too...or more if your just starting out and dont have any.

If you play it smart and pay cash you may even be able to wrangle yourself the socks for free.

Proper fitting shoes + good socks = No Blisters (add a lube if going really really long)

Exactly right! Exercise should be done regularly to be healthy and happier. No matter how busy our schedules may be, we should be working out everyday. I came across a video that talks about how to insert your working regimen despite your very busy schedule. It's a great video to watch really! http://marieforleo.com/2012/01/no-time-to-work-out/

I'm 14 I broke my tibia in May of 2011 and I am still not 100%. When I run my leg still starts to hurt. I have started to work out, my thighs are stronger but my calf is still very weak. I am coming back slowly. Good Luck to you!!

I wasn't aware that cramps increase with aging. Interesting. When I come to thing about it, I never had cramps when I was younger.

"Give yourself permission to drop the pace"

Good advice! Don't focus on speed AND distance, you'll probably just get frustrated. Work on the endurance component first, then try to pick up the pace.

Awesome post about finding the time and making sure you have time for family. It is hard to balance running, especially marathon + training, when you have kids but it is so worth it to find a way. I often get up earlier than the family so I can get my longer runs in. If I am just doing a mile, I do it while my darling daughter is having some quiet time. We are at the point now that she knows when I just need to run. :)

Nice post - I'm kind of the opposite in that I always get up early (sometimes ridiculously so) to get my run in - from the time I restarted running after having children, goal #1 has been to make sure running interferes as little with family life as possible. I don't agree with your statement about feeling good - unless you mean strictly physically. Every run, whether a killer tempo or a relaxing recovery run, leaves me feeling good mentally.

I get what your saying I'm 45 and have spent 26 years in the military and I hated to run, but lately I have been running more and completed the Charleston Distance Run and the Marshall half marathon. I took a brake this December and just started back and just realized how much i missed running.

Properly fitted shoes are a huge key for me. Next is a quality sock. My pucks are Drymax and Balaga brands. If I feel the need for an anti blister product I reach for my Slather from Skinstrong. Works better than Bodyglide in my opinion.
