I had flu while participating the Singapore Marathon 2009. I went on with the 42.195KM run of course and I beat my personal record by half an hour. However, I told my self that I'll never do it again because not only you'll need to clear the stuff from your nose also due to the fact that I felt horrible after the run, and I got a fever the day after. Everyone thought that I was crazy to carry on with the run

There are races I've gone to myself that I never felt good heading up to the start line. But I've always maintained the best medicine for me is just going for it- and usually (even if its the duration of the race), I feel better. So I'd have to agree with everything you said! Unfortunately, when I run sick, I usually don't go about setting PRs though lol
